Antibacterial Coating
Price Twa are able to offer an antibacterial powder coating on it’s entire range of radiant ceiling panels.
DESCRIPTION
STERILCOAT AM is a range of thermosetting powder coatings showing a high activity against a broad spectrum of micro-organisms, including bacteria, yeasts and moulds.
As this activity is not limited to a certain binder system, the STERILCOAT AM grade can be obtained in any existing powder coating chemistry:
- indoor & outdoor applications
- all gloss levels
- all colours
- special effects
The antibacterial ingredient complies with the requirements of the Food and Drugs Administration, 21 CFR, Subpart F, Paragraph 175.300, “Resinous and polymeric coatings”.
Typical application areas are hospitals, nursery furniture, food processing areas, restaurants & catering, hotels, public washrooms & toilets, rest homes, locker rooms, schools, offices, …
POWDER PROPERTIES
A STERICOAT powder shows the typical general properties of the comparable basic powder without the built-in antibacterial activity.
POWDER APPLICATION
A STERILCOAT AM powder has to be applied and cured according to the specifications of its basic coating:
- electrostatic application on cold substrates, or
- electrostatic application on preheated substrates (residual heat cure), or
- fluidised-bed application on preheated substrates (residual heat cure)
PROPERTIES OF THE COATING
Also the coating properties of a STERILCOAT AM powder coating are comparable to these of the basic coating without the built-in antibacterial activity.
In order to obtain optimal anticorrosion properties, it is advised to apply a chemical pre-treatment prior to powder coating application:
Aluminium : chromatation (DIN 50939). Steel (indoor) : iron phosphate amorphous Steel (outdoor) : zinc phosphate crystalline, or better: tricationic phosphatation Galvanized steel (zinc) : chromatation or tricationic phosphatation Metallized steel (flame-sprayed) : -
ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY:
- The active ingredient shows a complete broad spectrum activity: bacteria, yeasts and moulds, including antibiotic resistant bacteria (“superbugs”, e.g. MRSA).
- STERILCOAT AM shows a long-lasting action, thanks to a controlled release of the active component.
- The antibacterial activity is remained up to a temperature of 300 °C, and between pH 1 and 13, so far beyond the exposure limits of standard powder coatings.
- Some antibacterial test results of a STERILCOAT AM epoxy-polyester coating
| ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES:

OTHER BENEFITS:
- The antibacterial additive in STERILCOAT AM shows skin irritation, is non-sensitising and non-mutagenic.
- The antibacterial additive in STERILCOAT AM has
- FDA 175.300 approval for resinous coatings
- FDA 175.170 approval for contact with aqueous and fatty foods
- FDA 175.180 approval for contact with dry food
- EC EN71 approval for toy applications
